Wurkarounds
Now that Smurks is in the real wurld, we’d like to hear about any issues that may have squeaked past the testing process. You can mail them to us.
Until the next update, here are the wurkarounds we know about.
| Issue | Wurkaround |
|---|---|
| After playing the video tutorial, the iPhone hangs and has to be switched off to reset. | If you are running iOS 4.0 please update to the latest version of iOS and let us know if the problem still occurs. |
| I don’t see my latest Facebook posts |
Sometimes there can be a short delay in your Facebook post appearing in the news
feed. If this happens, try tapping on the “refresh page”
icon at the bottom of
the Facebook screen.
|
| I still don’t see my latest Facebook posts | If the refresh didn’t fix the problem, try double tapping on the Facebook Smurk. That will log you out from Facebook and the next time you post you’ll be asked to log in again. |
| Facebook is only showing updates from some of my friends. | That’s a “feature” of the “New Facebook” but don’t worry, you can turn it off. Go to facebook.com, look for “Most Recent” towards the upper right, click on the menu arrow beside it, then “Edit Options” at the bottom of the menu and change the “Show Posts From” entry to “All of your friends and pages”. |
| I can’t post a Smurk in a comment in response to a Facebook post. | You can, actually. Not the Smurk directly (that’s a Facebook limitation) but you can paste a link to a Smurk. To do this, drag your Smurk to the clipboard and select the “Clip for Web” option. You can then paste the link into a Facebook comment. |
| I’ve clipped a Smurk but can’t post to some apps. | Not all apps support pasting of HTML (in the case of “Clip for Mail”) or images (“Clip for other apps”). In particular, most Facebook apps only support pasting text. Try using the “Clip for Web” option so that you can paste a link to a Smurk into an app supporting only text pasting. |
| I’m on an iPad and when I drag a Smurk to the email or clipboard icons nothing happens. | Make sure your finger is over the icon when you release it. On the iPad it is possible to drag your finger past the icon so that it doesn’t stay “lit up”. |
| My Smurk appears as a link in Facebook. | If your Smurk appears as a link rather than an image, then it means Facebook wasn’t able to retrieve the Smurk from our servers. This happens very occasionally, and there’s not a lot we can do to prevent it. If it does happen, please let us know and we’ll arrange for Facebook to re-fetch the image to stop it happening again. Unfortunately, your existing posts won’t be updated but subsequent ones will show the Smurk correctly. |
| Issue | Wurkaround |
|---|---|
| If I drag from Twitter to Facebook (or vice versa) I get the wrong Smurk posted. | OK, this one is a bug. And it’s our bug, so we’ll fix it soon. The wurkaround is to first drag and drop on the main Smurk (we call it the chooser) then drag to Facebook or Twitter. |
| I posted a Smurk to Facebook and I don’t see it but instead get an ad for Smurks in my post. |
This one snuck (is that a wurd?) past the testers. The bug has been fixed but any
existing Facebook posts won’t be updated. The problem only affects the
following Smurks:
|
| Issue | Wurkaround |
|---|---|
| When you drop a Smurk on the Facebook outlet, you aren’t asked to authenticate with Facebook and Smurks returns immediately to the Smurk chooser. |
Facebook has (on a few occasions) not completed the App Registration process. The
wurkaround is to browse to the Facebook web page, go into
“Account / Privacy Settings / Apps and Websites / Apps you use / Edit
settings” and delete Smurks. The next time you try posting to Facebook you
should be asked to authenticate and allow Smurks to access Facebook.
Update: version 1.1 uses the latest Facebook Connect for iOS interface and this problem hasn’t been observed. |
| How do I change Facebook accounts? |
For now, you have to log into Facebook via a browser, and delete Smurks as an app
(see the previous wurkaround for more details).
Update: version 1.1 supports double tapping on the Facebook and Twitter smurks to log out / sign out. |
| You are asked to re-authenticate with Facebook even though you already have authenticated. |
We don’t know why this is happening
Ok, we suspect it is something at Facebook but we can’t be sure. We aim to sort it out for the next update but in the meantime, please accept our apologies and just re-enter your username and password if asked. Update: version 1.1 uses the latest Facebook Connect for iOS interface and this problem hasn’t been observed. |
